What is the best payment gateway in the Philippines for an online business?

Updated 2026-10-17

Short answer

There is no single best gateway for every business. For most online businesses in the Philippines, the right one is the gateway that covers the methods your customers actually use, mainly the GCash and Maya e-wallets, QR Ph and bank transfer, will onboard your company, confirms every payment with a signed notification, and can also pay money back out locally if you need refunds or payouts. Test those points in a sandbox before signing.

How Filipino customers pay online

The Philippines is mobile-first, and card usage is lower than in many markets. E-wallets are the default for a large share of online shoppers: GCash and Maya are the most widely used, and GrabPay is common among customers who already use Grab. Bank transfers run on two national rails: InstaPay for individual transfers of smaller amounts and PESONet for batch transfers. QR Ph is the national QR standard that lets a single code be paid from participating banks and e-wallets.

  • E-wallets: GCash, Maya, GrabPay.
  • National QR: QR Ph, accepted across participating banks and wallets.
  • Bank transfer: InstaPay (individual, smaller amounts) and PESONet (batch).
  • Cards: accepted, but rarely enough on their own.

Seven checks for a Philippine payment gateway

Ask each gateway to show you these, ideally in its sandbox:

  • Coverage: which e-wallets, QR Ph and bank transfer methods are live on your merchant account today, not on a roadmap.
  • Onboarding: whether it accepts your entity, including companies incorporated outside the Philippines, and which KYB documents it needs.
  • Checkout: how the customer pays on mobile, whether by redirect to the wallet app, a QR code or a hosted payment page, and what happens if they abandon halfway.
  • Notifications: a signed webhook for every status change, plus a status query you can call if a webhook is missed.
  • Reconciliation: your own order reference on every transaction and a downloadable statement.
  • Payouts and refunds: whether the same account can send money to Philippine bank accounts, so refunds and partner payouts do not need a second provider.
  • Pricing and settlement: the full fee schedule per method, and which currency you are settled in, written into the contract.

Common mistakes

  • Offering cards only and losing customers who expected to pay by wallet.
  • Treating the redirect back from the payment page as proof of payment instead of waiting for the signed notification.
  • Choosing a gateway for collection, then discovering it cannot pay out locally.
  • Assuming every method on a gateway’s website is enabled for your account without checking.

Where CVPay fits

These are the product facts you can rely on. Which methods are enabled on your merchant account is confirmed at onboarding.

  • Its local fiat markets are Vietnam and the Philippines.
  • Pay-ins support three kinds of method: bank transfer, QR code and e-wallet.
  • Pay-in methods include VietQR, MoMo, ZaloPay and Viettel Money in Vietnam, and GCash, Maya, GrabPay and QR Ph in the Philippines.
  • Pay-outs can be sent to local bank accounts in Vietnam and the Philippines, or as USDT to a wallet.
  • CVPay supports three currencies, VND, PHP and USDT, in both directions: collecting and paying out.
  • One merchant account and one API cover all three currencies.
  • Payment status changes are sent as webhook callbacks, and every callback is signed.
  • Merchants are onboarded after a KYB review. A sandbox environment is opened first, and the sandbox is isolated from production.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need both GCash and Maya?
Usually yes for a consumer business. Each has a large user base, and customers tend to pay with the wallet they already hold. QR Ph can widen coverage further, since one code can be paid from participating banks and wallets.
Can a company outside the Philippines use a Philippine payment gateway?
Some gateways onboard foreign entities and some only serve Philippine-registered companies. Ask before you start the integration.
Is InstaPay or PESONet better for receiving payments?
They serve different needs. InstaPay is built for individual transfers of smaller amounts; PESONet handles batch transfers and larger amounts. For checkout, most online businesses rely on e-wallets and QR first.
